What to Expect:

Discovery and Design The process starts off with a discovery phase where we discuss with the homeowner how the kitchen is used and what they would like to see changed with the kitchen. We design around the owner and the owner’s family, from extra cabinetry storage, or increased room for entertaining, to making the kitchen more accommodating to aging in place.

We will discuss floor plans, selections of materials, and provide the client with an estimated budget to help with the budget decision. Because we are a design builder, the design is integrated with the construction and every decision is discussed to determine if both cosmetic and practical choices make sense, thereby eliminating surprises before construction begins.

Permitting and Preparation Typically kitchen remodels require permits for building, electrical, plumbing, or gas work. We handle the permitting process throughout the North Shore for both cosmetic updates (e.g. painting cabinets, new flooring, backsplash) and extensive projects involving plumbing, new appliances, and/or new electrical services.

We will also obtain required permits from the Historic District Commissions if the property falls within the Newburyport Historic District or local municipal historic commissions. We work hand-in-hand with the historic commission to preserve the integrity of the home while upgrading the kitchen to meet the needs of modern day families.

Construction and Communication The construction phase of the project will be accompanied by regular updates and communication to the client so they are aware of what is being completed, what will follow next, and whether or not there are any decisions to be made.

We will maintain the cleanliness of the site by utilizing plastic to cover the kitchen and surrounding spaces and floors, to prevent any accidental damage from happening. The majority of the projects will involve at least 6 weeks of active construction. The exact time frame will depend on the type of kitchen remodel we are performing and the scope of work involved. Typically projects that involve major demolition, relocating plumbing and electrical, and/or creating an open concept kitchen will be longer than those that do not.
